Loop Head Peninsula

The Loop Head Peninsula lies in the west of county Clare, between the Atlantic ocean and the mouth of Shannon. The coastline is most impressive with its huge cliffs and bizarre columns. The lighthouse on the western cape of the peninsula (Loop Head) can be visited. Visiting the lighthouse towering over the ocean at the Loop Head is very recommendable.

The lighthouse is accessible for visitors from April to October, including an interesting exhibition about the history of the enclosure. Huge colonies of sea birds can be observed on a walk along the cliffs. Loop Head is located approximately 17 kilometres west of Carrigaholt. It is a signature point of the Wild Atlantic Way.
